Balchik

Balchik has always ranked among the most picturesque towns on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast.

The town is a relatively large settlement along the Northern seaside with its population numbering 13,766 people and a harbor used for medium-sized passengers and commercial vessels. It is situated 31km north of Varna in a beautiful inlet.

Balchik is a interesting historical town, huddling below sandstone cliffs, and with beautiful old Ottoman and National Revival small houses.

When it was part of Romania Queen Marie built her summer palace here, which can still be seen. The palace is about mile west of the town, on a hillside, surrounded by impressive gardens, with numerous follies and weird grottos and terraces.
