BERKOVITSA

Scrutinizing various historic maps dating VII-IX c., Berkovitsa is marked as the old town, being part of the internal city of the State.

Strategic location, nature and climate have stressed the leading position of Berkovitsa
as a tourist site since the beginning of the last century.
The town has been a national resort since 1974, an attraction for tourists due to its mild climate with soft and sunny winter, cool summer, fresh air, crystal spring water and healing mineral spas in the region.

Berkovitsa is situated in the West Old Mountain, in the southwest part, 405 meters above sea level, at the foot of Kom summit (2016 meters), exposed at mild sunshine and refreshed by dens beech, oak and chest nut woods.

The Kom Tourist and Sport complex is located just 15 km from the town, 12 km from the Petrohan Gorg, electrified, running water and 1500 km above sea level. Snow cover lasts for almost five months, which determines conditions for winter recreation. The complex offers alpine and running types of ski-run, serviced by two ski-lifts, ski training school and equipment, guides, fast food.

During summer ardent fishers are able to melt in delight at the possibility to practice their habit, going fishing for trout in the clear waters of the Blue dam (575 m above sea level).
There are also opportunities for hunting practicing. The ForestrynTraining Campus Petrohan is located just 5km from the town and offers about 6000 hectares hunting terrain, inhabited by royal deer, lopatar, does, boars, and prayers.
