Sofia is the capital of Bulgaria and lies in the Sofia plain, enclosed by the Balkan Range Mountain to the north and Vitosha mountain to the south. The city is historically very rich with more than 7000 years of history – the Tracians, Romans, Bulgarians, Byzantines and Ottomans have all left their traces in Sofia.

Nowadays, Sofia is the country's leading political, economic, cultural and industrial centre.
