Tryavna

The town of Tryavna (with population of 12,226) is situated in a small valley expansion of the Central Balkan mountain, along the two banks of the Dryanovska River. It is situated 242 km North-east of Sofia, 22 km East of Gabrova, 17 km South of Dryanova, 42 km South-west of Veliko Turnovo and 7 km North of Plachkovtsi.

Climate

The exceptionally healthy climate and divine countryside of Tryavna made it a paramount resort as early as 1896. Later on the first Bulgarian children’s sanatorium for chest diseases was built there.

The Town

Tryavna has preserved its Revival appearance even to-day. The old part was proclaimed an architecture preserve with about 140 monuments of revival architecture.

Transport

There are regular bus routes to Gabrovo, Dryanovo, Plachkovtsi, Veliko Turnovo and other small towns. The bus station and rail station are next to each other. Tryavna rail station is on the main line Rousse-Gorna Oryahovitsa-Podkova.

The recreation town of Plachkovtsi (7 km South of Tryavna) is an important point of departure for the Tryavna Balkan Mountain. The natural phenomena Vikanata Skala (The Called Rock) Muhnatite Skali (the Mossy Rock) and Stolishta are located there. There is a regular bus and rail link between the two towns.
